Tooth whitening is one of the easiest ways to transform the look of your smile and refresh the entire appearance of your visage…
Whilst it may be tempting to select cheaper tooth whitening products from supermarkets or salons, a dentist is trained to effectively whiten your tooth whilst protecting the health and integrity of your teeth and gums. This is because they can easily identify the cause of your tooth discolouration, and recommend the appropriate treatment to ensure the health and beauty of your smile. Over-the-counter products simply cannot address other types of discolouration, such as infection inside a tooth!
At Q Dental we can assess the source of your tooth discolouration and select the most effective whitening treatment in response to your individual needs and desires.
What can I do to avoid discolouration or staining on my teeth?
The main causes of tooth discolouration involve lifestyle habits such as smoking and dietary habits, but the good news here is that these main causes can be controlled! There are a few other factors that tend to stain or discolour our smiles, and these include:
- Consuming tea, coffee or red wine (red wine is especially bad for your teeth as it not only discolours the teeth, it opens the pores of the enamel and causes erosion too!)
- Smoking/chewing tobacco
- Some medications
- Some dental conditions such as infections inside the tooth
Some of these factors can be controlled, such as consuming coffee or smoking. Others are more difficult to control because they are simply out of our hands, such as aging. At Q Dental we can identify what is causing your tooth discolouration, and recommend the correct treatment (for instance if there is infection inside the tooth a root canal may be necessary) so you can achieve the best results. We are dedicated to helping you achieve high quality, natural looking results and will talk with you in depth about in-chair treatment or possible take-home treatments if you have a busy schedule.
At Q Dental sometimes whitening isn’t always the answer…
As previously mentioned, your tooth discolouration could be due to something more severe than just cosmetic staining, and if this is the case no amount of tooth whitening will be able to help. Instead we will get to the source of the issue to minimise or eliminate the problem after which we can refresh your smile with a whitening treatment. Prior to any cosmetic treatment we will always assess the health of your smile to ensure there are no issues present for best results.
